OUR STORY

Nourishing Ourselves - Nourishing the Earth

I'm Katrina, joined by my husband Mike and our 5 girls- Jocelyn, Kensington, Addison, Avery and Eliana. We started our journey like many do- it was a hobby turned passion. We began to see the value of homegrown and raised back in 2013 when we got married, and since then we have always had goals to be self-sustaining. In 2014, we had our first garden, and have grown in all areas into what you see today. We have been able to see and taste the difference in what we raise compared to conventionally grown, and we want to share that with our community. It isn't easy, it is the narrow road we choose to be on, but that is what God has called us to do. That is why we are the Narrow Road Homestead.

ABOUT NARROW ROAD HOMESTEAD

A question we often get is, "Why don't you just buy it from the store?".  What drives us is what you see on our homepage- Faith, Family, and Freedom. I'll break it down by topic.

Faith- In Genesis 1, God told us to rule the Earth, with that comes responsibility of maintaining the Earth. In what we do, we can control the process so the animals have a life that will be nutritionally beneficial for all. Animals that are pasture raised have higher omega-3s in their meat, and with moving them, they don't stay in their own manure, which gives many benefits. Intensive rotational grazing helps with their health, and it naturally spreads manure which fertilizes the grass for the following grazing period.

Family- What we do here also helps us grow as a family. Nothing unites people like working towards a common goal. What we do helps us learn more about the Earth, and gain even more respect for God's creation.

Freedom- We live in the good ol' United States of America. Nothing is more passionate to an American than true freedom. We believe in food freedom as well. We want our community to have any option available to them, and we also are passionate about the freedom for us to be able to live off the land, and be in control of how something as essential as food, is produced.

LOCAL / NON-GMO / SUSTAINABLE

Taking care of God's creation is important to us, and that is a big reason for why we choose this life. We also take great care in choosing what kind of feed we give to our animals. We are happy to have found a feed that is just as transparent as we strive to be towards you- our customers. Kraut Creek Premium Non-GMO feed is based in Greenville, Ohio, and they don't use any growth hormones or antibiotics. The company also cares about nutrient density, soil health, and how it affects the food we eat. We are pleased that the company uses Fertrell Minerals in their feed, and takes the initiative to have it tested for herbicides, pesticides, and gmo content to assure us of the quality. You can find out more about the company/founder here, and see the test results here. Should a need arise to switch feed until a delivery/pick-up, it will remain non-gmo if possible.
